China’s coal output drops by 4.2% in Jan-Feb

China’s raw coal output dropped by 4.2 per cent year on year (YoY) to 710 million tonnes during the initial two months of this year, according to Xinhua citing official data.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicates that in December 2023, the country’s raw coal production increased by 1.9 per cent compared to the previous year.

NBS data further illustrates that China’s coal imports experienced substantial growth in the January-February timeframe.

During this period, China imported 74.52 million tonnes of coal, marking a notable surge of 22.9 per cent from the corresponding period last year, as revealed by the data.
