Civil Powers May Freeze Their Participation In Constituent Assembly

Egypt’s civil powers represented in the constituent assembly to draft the new constitution have decided to stop their participation in the assembly till responding to their demands. The paramount important demand is to amend a number of articles of the new constitution. Reliable sources revealed that Amr Moussa, former presidential candidate, and Dr Souad Kamel had a meeting with Hossam El Gheriany, Head of the Constituent Assembly, after ending the assembly sessions. During the meeting they informed him that in case of not responding to the demands of the civil powers till next Sunday, they will withdraw from the assembly.

The sources added that among these demands is to last the assembly work more three months and restructuring the miniature drafting committee, implementing the regulations on the absent members, and changing the sessions’ management. These civil powers will meet with the president to inform him the latest developments.
