Biden’s administration announced on Saturday the final rules to reduce methane emissions from the U.S. oil and gas sector, as part of a global effort to limit the greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
U.S. officials at the COP28 revealed the final rules to curb methane emissions from the U.S. oil and gas industry, after two years of work.
The rules are part of a global initiative to cut methane emissions by 30 percent from 2020 levels by 2030, a pledge made by 150 countries two years ago.
Furthermore, the countries at the summit are expected to explain how they will fulfill this pledge.
“These new standards will help us meet our international commitments to aggressively tackle climate change, while improving air quality for communities all across the country,” stated Michael Regan, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, at a news conference in Dubai.
