Egypt aims to increase wheat cultivation to 4mln acres next season – official

Egypt aims to increase the allocated area for wheat cultivation by 25 percent in the new season, reaching four million acres, up from 3.2 million acres in the season which ended in mid-July, according to Asharq Business citing government official.

This announcement came after a data showed that quantities supplied by farmers to the Ministry of Supply fell by about 10 percent to reach 3.4 million tons during the last season compared to 3.8 million tons in 2022 season.

It is worth mentioning that the crops prices have witnessed a giant leap coinciding with the Russian-Ukrainian war, along side with a series of major supply outages that comes from both countries.

Egypt’s wheat stock is sufficient for 4.7 months of domestic consumption, according to data released by the Ministry of Supply last August, adding that vegetable oils would cover 3.9 months.
