Egypt denies naming monorail after businessmen in exchange for paying construction costs – ministry

Egyptian Ministry of Transportation issued a statement on Saturday that the monorail and other modern mass transit will be named after entities not businessmen in return for bearing the construction costs.

The statement came has released to cut off rumours that the ministry is cooperating with the businessman to name some stations in their names in exchange for money to fund construction costs.

The ministry seeks to contract with companies, universities, institutions or banks to name the stations in the names of those entities or institutions.

In addition to that, a number of stations will name behind some of national characters, such as Field Marshal Tantawy and Counsellor Hisham Barakat.

This is an honor of their names for the great patriotic deeds they have done in the service of the Egyptian people, the statement added.

The Ministry urges the various media to investigate the accuracy of the news published about the ministry and to obtain it from its official sources.

Egypt’s first monorail set to operate by 2023 with two lines extending 100 km linking West and East Cairo, making the network the longest of its kind in the world.
