Egypt has strategic wheat reserves sufficient for 5 months – minister

Egypt has sufficient strategic reserves of commodities including wheat, to cover the country’s needs for five months, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali Moselhy said on Sunday.

Moslehi’s remarks came during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly to discuss the situation regarding the country’s basic commodity reserves, according to a statement by the Cabinet.

Egypt has strategic reserves of wheat and sugar sufficient for five months and 4.5 months respectively. The new sugar cane and beet supply season will begin from January to February 2023.

The minister further added that the country’s reserves of cooking oil and frozen poultry are sufficient for 4.8 months, while the meat reserves are sufficient for 12.6 months.

The state also has reserves of pasta and rice sufficient for 5.8 and 5.5 months respectively, the statement mentioned.
