Egypt’s General Authority of Supply Commodities (GASC) has contracted for 200,000 tons of raw sugar to arrive from May to August 2024, the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade announced on Sunday.

In order to strengthen the strategic sugar stock and upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, the total contracted amount of raw sugar has reached 450,000 tons.

The imported raw sugar will be refined in factories owned by the Holding Company for Food Industries to stabilise sugar prices and ensure availability in the Egyptian market, as per the statement.
