Egypt in Top 10 Destinations for UK New Year’s Tourist

Based on recent bookings, TripAdvisor has released a list of the most popular New Year’s Eve destinations across the world and Egypt has made the cut. Studying the behaviours of British tourists using the site, Sharm El Sheikh has ranked in at number 10, proving that the Red Sea resort and its plethora of nightlife events still hold a dear place in the hearts of travellers. London came in first, followed by Edinburgh, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Dubai, Blackpool, Berlin and Sydney.

Egypt’s tourism industry has suffered greatly in the last three years, though recent figures indicate it’s slowly but surely returning. “Tourist arrivals have shot up nearly 70 per cent in the third quarter of 2014 compared with the same period last year. Arrivals in September increased 193 per cent compared with the same month in 2013, with 884,000 arrivals compared with 301,000,” explains a recent Financial Times feature. With Egyptian destinations returning to popularity among global travellers, it seems like our recent turmoil is being forgotten, while our historical greatness comes back to the spotlight.
