Egypt mulls green hydrogen to replace coal

Egypt’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister, Mahmoud Esmat, announced that the ministry is exploring the possibility of replacing coal with renewable energy sources like green hydrogen.

During a meeting with Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouly, Esmat emphasised the need to revise the country’s energy strategy due to evolving internal and external factors in the energy sector, global economic changes, and advancements in technology.

He added that the ministry aims to assess how to boost the share of renewable energy in Egypt’s energy mix and integrate green hydrogen into it.
