Egypt sees 22.1% decline in emigration rates in ’23 – CAPMAS

The number of Egyptians obtained emigration permits or acquired emigration status reached 247 emigrants in 2023, 22.1 per cent down from 317 emigrants in 2022, the CAPMAS reported on Thursday.

Italy continued to be the top destination for Egyptian emigrants in 2023, attracting 83 individuals, 33.6 per cent of the total. The US and Canada followed closely behind with 61 and 59 emigrants, respectively.

The data also revealed a significant increase in the number of Egyptians acquiring foreign nationalities. In 2023, a total of 4,418 Egyptians obtained foreign citizenship, representing a 26.3 per cent rise compared to 3,498 in 2022.

The recent report from CAPMAS reveals that 66 per cent Egyptians who acquire dual citizenship opt to maintain their Egyptian nationality.
