Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), organised a study tour for Jordanian government representatives from February 17–19.
The tour aimed to highlight Egypt’s expertise in trade facilitation, particularly in implementing the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, e-commerce, customs, and border control procedures to enhance digital trade.
On the first day, Egyptian officials shared insights on trade facilitation, featuring contributions from the WTO Central Administration within the Trade Agreements and Foreign Trade Sector, as well as representatives from the Egyptian Customs Authority and the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).
Experts from the Egyptian Customs Authority provided an overview of Egypt’s trade facilitation systems, including the Risk Management System, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, and streamlined customs clearance procedures. Additionally, GOEIC representatives discussed the risk management system for non-food industrial goods and the organisation’s Approved Exporter System, emphasising its role in facilitating trade, particularly in e-commerce.
The study tour also featured representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Consumer Protection Agency, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), and the Trade Agreements and Foreign Trade Sector. Their presentations focused on Egypt’s e-commerce regulations and initiatives to advance digital trade. Discussions included the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, complemented by a visit to Cairo’s postal customs facility.
