Egypt, Sierra Leone to boost infrastructure, maritime trade

Egypt and Sierra Leone are set to enhance their collaboration in infrastructure and maritime trade following recent discussions between officials from both nations.

A delegation from the General Authority for Roads & Bridges and Land Transport along with Egyptian companies are set to visit Freetown in September. The visit aims to coordinate and finalise plans for road and bridge projects in Sierra Leone, focusing on both upgrading existing infrastructure and developing new projects.

The initiative seeks to address traffic congestion by constructing bridges and tunnels, drawing on Egypt’s extensive expertise in road quality improvement.

Furthermore, discussions included boosting maritime trade between the two countries. Sierra Leone expressed interest in establishing a shipping line to transport Sierra Leonean products, such as palm oil, as well as Egyptian goods to Sierra Leone and other African markets. The collaboration will also involve Egyptian support in developing and enhancing ports in Sierra Leone.
