Egypt to expand health insurance to cover quarter of population in 2 years – PM

Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System (UHIA) will cover more than 25 per cent of the population within the next two years, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Tuesday.

Speaking at an open meeting with editors-in-chief, Madbouly said he met with Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and senior officials on Monday to accelerate the rollout of the system’s second phase, adding that Alexandria may be included.

Madbouly said the state continues to prioritise social support, with subsidy allocations remaining the largest budget item. He highlighted the ongoing Hayah Kareema (Decent Life) Initiative, which is upgrading infrastructure and services in villages across Egypt.
