Egypt to host peace summit on Gaza

Egypt will host the Cairo Peace Summit on Saturday to discuss de-escalation efforts in Gaza Al-Qahera News reported on Monday.

This comes after Cairo held a National Security Council meeting on Sunday headed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Caritin Colonna, announced on Monday in a joint press conference in Cairo on Monday with her Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, that France will be participating in the summit.

Colona expressed the importance of the summit as well as her gratitude to Egypt for hosting the event.

According to press reports, the US President Joe Biden will also participate in the summit.

News reports said that 18 other countries and the Secretary General of the United Nations will participate in the summit.

Egyptian ambassadors invited heads of a number of Arab countries, including Qatar and Kuwait.

The summit will be held as the fighting continues in the Gaza Strip for the tenth day.

The Palestinian health ministry said that at least 2,808 Palestinians have been killed and 10,859 wounded in the Gaza Strip so far.

Around 64 percent of the Palestinian victims are women and children.

The Israeli bombardment also killed 37 from the medical staff and at least 12 journalists.
