Egypt to resume quarterly fuel price reviews in Q1 FY2026/27 – PM

Egypt’s fuel pricing committee will resume its quarterly reviews of domestic fuel prices during the July-September quarter, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Wednesday, after the committee paused its regular review schedule in recent months.

Speaking at a press conference, Madbouly said the committee would resume its work to determine domestic fuel prices but did not specify when it would next meet.

The committee normally reviews fuel prices every three months based on international oil prices, exchange rate movements, and other cost factors.

Madbouly also said the government was ensuring adequate fuel supplies for power plants and closely monitoring the electricity sector to maintain stable power generation.

Commenting on higher electricity tariffs for restaurants and cafés, Madbouly said the 20 per cent increase applies only to businesses that choose to remain open beyond government-mandated closing hours under a voluntary arrangement with the authorities.

“We agreed with businesses that wish to operate after the official closing time that they would pay the additional charge,” he said.

Madbouly added that the government had introduced several measures to support the economy, including public-sector wage increases and amendments to the Comprehensive Health Insurance Law in response to concerns raised by private-sector businesses.
