Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced last week that it converted 507,000 vehicles to run on natural gas as a part of its national initiative to reduce petroleum consumption. The initiative also seeks to reduce carbon emissions and support road safety.
The ministry launched the Aging Vehicle Replacement Initiative in 2014 to replace petroleum fuelled cars with eco-friendly ones.
In March 2023, Egypt established its first mobile centre to convert cars to run on natural gas.
The government also increased the number of its natural gas refuelling stations to 910.
