Egypt, UN discuss agricultural cooperation, investment in Africa

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova on Monday to discuss joint cooperation between the ministry and UN agencies working in the agricultural sector, the Egyptian Cabinet reported.

Farouk highlighted Egypt’s strong collaboration with UN organisations such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

He emphasised the importance of private sector engagement in Egypt and Africa to boost trade, attract investment, and enhance food security across the continent.

Panova outlined the UN-Egypt Cooperation Framework (2023-2027), which focuses on climate sustainability, education, health, and migration.

Both sides agreed to organise ministerial-level meetings involving African nations, UN agencies, and private sector representatives to explore investment opportunities and share Egypt’s agricultural expertise with African countries.
