Eight Egyptian army conscripts were badly burned in an electrical fire on Saturday and have been transported to a hospital in Ismailiya, Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.
The conscripts, who serve in the Suez Canal waterway protection unit, were cleaning their bunkers with gas when an electrical circuit shorted and sparked a fire.
The conscripts received immediate basic medical treatment before being transported to Ismailiya’s Kantara Hospital.
They sustained second-degree burns, with around 60 to 80 percent of their bodies burned.
Two of the conscripts are in critical condition.
