Egyptian Government: Recycling Technology Has to Be Pre-applied Abroad

The governmental committee formed to consider the recycling of solid waste for producing various energy derivatives has set a condition that the technology proposed from any research or scientific bodies has to be previously applied and proven to be feasible on the practical level in order to preserve money from being squandered in experiments.

The Egyptian government has assigned a governmental committee, comprising the ministries of environment, petroleum, scientific research, local developments, and representatives of other governorates and governmental bodies, to consider this issue.

A number of experts have denounced this decision. Most notably, Dr. Amr Hasb-Allah, Chairman of the Future Agency for Development, stated  that he cannot conceive how the government can enforce this decision while continuously declare their support for scientific research. He added that scientific researches are mainly based on experiments, stressing that the burden of these researches are incurred by investors only and will not even harm the country in any way. He further described the condition that technology must be applied before in other countries as illogical.

Hasb-Allah emphasized that his agency will continue the researches it has started  long time ago in the field of solid waste recycling and will finance the expenses required for the experiments. He added that the government may apply for purchasing these experiments when discovering about their success, or otherwise, we will produce and export our products abroad.
