Egyptian Museum reveals rare photos of King Menkaure statues discovery

The Egyptian Museum revealed rare photos of the discovery of the King Menkaure statue in 1908 on its Facebook page in August 2023.

The set of photographs depict the moment a group of statues of King Menkaure were discovered in Giza. The images document the full discovery, step by step.

The dig unearthed statues dating back to the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom (2490 – 2472 BC) and it was Part of Harvard University’s Giza Project.
