Egyptian Police Disperse Small Pro-Muslim Brotherhood Protests

Egyptian security forces dispersed a number of pro-Muslim Brotherhood protests on Friday, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

Protesters took to the streets following Friday prayers in the towns of Nahya, El-Badrashin, El-Hawamdeya, and El-Omraneya in Giza.

Protests in Egypt often take place following weekly prayers on Friday, the first day of the weekend.

Protesters chanted slogans against the army and police, and carried pictures of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.

They attempted to block a number of roads before the police quelled their attempts and dispersed them.

In the Mediterranean governorate of Alexandria, a police officer sustained a wound to his head during the dispersal of a pro-Brotherhood gathering in El-Wardiyan, west of the city of Alexandria.

The police said it arrested four individuals at the protest who were carrying flyers inciting against the army.

Since Morsi’s ouster last year, thousands of his supporters have been arrested. A controversial law issued in November last year has banned all public demonstrations and protests that have not received prior police permission.
