Egyptian Presidency: ‘Our War on Terrorism’ Doesn’t Breach Human Rights

The office of Egypt’s interim president, Adly Mansour, has praised mass demonstrations in Tahrir Square on Friday as “proof” of Egyptians’ “condemnation of terrorism.”

“Our war on terrorism is in accordance with the law on the protection of human rights,” said Egyptian presidential media advisor Ahmed El-Meslimany in a short statement on Friday evening.

Thousands of Egyptians are demonstrating on Friday in support of a call by army chief Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to give the military a “mandate” to crackdown on “violence and terrorism.”

The presidency later echoed the call on Egyptians to demonstrate.

Thousands also held rival demonstrations in support of former president Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted by the military on 3 July after nationwide protests.
