Hussein Zakaria, Chairman of the Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENR), has asserted that the ENR has allocated $ 800 million to implement five big ventures to improve the infrastructure to the railways within five years.

He referred to the first fruit of these ventures, which is signing two contracts to develop the signals and communications system on “Cairo-Alexandria” line. The first contract is between the ENR and the French “Thales” Group at EGP 983 million and funded by the World Bank to carry out the latest modern systems of electric signs and communications along with constructing central control tower in Cairo.

Meanwhile, the second contract is with the French “SYSTRA” Company at value of EGP 28.8 million, funded by the ENR, to supervise the work of the first contract.

The venture of replacing the mechanical signalling systems on “Beni Suef- Assuit” line with modern electronic systems will be carried out in 2014.
