Egyptian seafood exports to Europe resume

Egypt’s Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency (LFRPDA) announced on Sunday the reopening of European markets to Egyptian seafood exports after a three years hiatus.

The European inspection mission, conducted from May 27 to June 7, 2024, approved the resumption of exports from natural fisheries to the European Union (EU).

This move follows a 2021 review in which the EU raised concerns over Egypt’s regulatory system for seafood, citing 109 observations and 20 recommendations related to inadequate tracking and oversight practices.

These issues led to a suspension of seafood exports, resulting in significant losses for Egyptian exporters. The recent approval is set to enable Egyptian seafood products to re-enter European markets in the coming days.
