Egypt’s Abu Qir Fertilisers signs green hydrogen MoU

Egypt’s Abu Qir Agricultural Nutrients Company signed on Tuesday a green hydrogen MoU with ABB International Group, MPS Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions, and Petrojet Company, according to the Egyptian Cabinet statement.

Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has witnessed the signing ceremony with the presence of Alaa Hajar, Undersecretary for the Technical Office; Hassanein Mohamed, Head of the Central Administration of the Minister’s Office; and Ibrahim Makki, President of the Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company (ECM).

The agreement aims to provide the North Abu Qir Agricultural Nutrients Company project with green hydrogen and renewable electricity to produce green ammonia, a key ingredient in the manufacture of granulated ammonium nitrate fertiliser, with a daily output of 2,400 tons.

Post-signing, Al-Mulla highlighted the petroleum sector’s exceptional abilities, particularly in infrastructure. He stressed the sector’s eagerness to collaborate with the private sector to achieve the state’s strategic goals in oil, gas, and green energies.

The minister also noted the significant investment opportunities in the Egyptian petroleum sector and the need to leverage them while reducing emissions and protecting the environment.

The cooperation agreement with the ABB Group and the MoU signed with the Chinese Energy Corporation last October are not in conflict. Both agreements aid in supplying Abu Qir Agricultural Nutrients Company with green hydrogen and help develop Abu Qir Fertilisers Company.
