Egypt’s agro-exports exceed $9b – minister

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, El Sayyed El Quseir, announced significant growth in the country’s agricultural sector, with exports exceeding $9 billion, nearly doubling from 4 million tonnes in 2014 to 7.44 tonnes in 2023, the Egyptian Cabinet stated on Tuesday.

The minister highlighted the expansion into 93 new markets, exporting over 400 commodities to 160 countries. Notably, the Japanese market opened in 2020 for Egyptian grapes and pomegranates, with ongoing efforts for further expansion.

Recent developments include the introduction of Egyptian potatoes to Brazil and tangerines to El Salvador, with continuous efforts to open more international markets.

In 2023, Egypt experienced a record-breaking increase in fresh agricultural exports, reaching 7.4 million tonnes valued at $3.7 billion.

Additionally, manufactured agricultural exports contributed $5.1 billion, maintaining Egypt’s top global position in frozen orange and strawberry exports for the third consecutive year.
