Egypt’s Damietta Port handles 18 vessels in daily operations
Egypt’s Damietta Port received 10 vessels and dispatched eight over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of ships at the port to 24, the Damietta Port Authority said on Thursday.
The port handled 41,067 tons of export cargo and 30,198 tons of imports during the reporting period, according to the authority.
Export shipments included 400 tons of basalt, 7,300 tons of gypsum, 9,189 tons of clinker, 13,623 tons of urea, and 10,555 tons of miscellaneous goods.
Imports comprised 13,200 tons of scrap metal, 836 tons of beech wood, 2,100 tons of rice, 12,562 tons of soybeans, and 1,500 tons of bulk beans.
Container traffic reached 162 export twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), while import containers totalled 995 TEUs and transit containers amounted to 1,686 TEUs.
Public-sector grain silos at the port held 74,712 tons of wheat, while private-sector storage facilities contained a further 37,583 tons.
Truck traffic into and out of the port reached 4,629 vehicles during the period.
The daily operational update follows a fire at Damietta Port earlier this week involving a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), after which authorities said the port remained fully operational and vessel traffic continued without disruption.
