Egypt’s export sector struggles in ’23 – CAPMAS
Egypt’s total exports reached $42.5 billion in 2023, down 18.5 per cent from 2022, with non-petroleum exports slightly increasing to $35.44 billion while petroleum and electricity exports plummeted by 58.0 per cent to $7.1 billion.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported on Monday that finished goods accounted for 51.3 per cent of total exports, followed by semi-finished goods at 20.3 per cent and fuel at 17.1 per cent.
Türkiye was the top exporter with an 8.6 per cent share, but exports decreased by 8.0 per cent to $3.6 billion in 2023. Italy ranked second with a 7.6 per cent share, and exports fell by 4.6 per cent to $3.3 billion.
Saudi Arabia ranked third, representing 6.2 per cent of total exports, with exports growing by 6.2 per cent to $2.7 billion in 2023 from $2.5 billion in 2024, according to the CAPMAS report.
