Egypt’s food exports reach 200,000 tons during 12-18 Sept. week – NFSA

Egypt exported around 200,000 tons of food products in 4,220 consignments during the week of 12-18 Sept., the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in its weekly report on Sunday.

The exports were handled by 1,450 companies and covered around 710 food product types, including vegetables and tubers, fruits, flour, and grain products, preserved vegetables and fruits, and other food products, according to the report.

Vegetable exports totalled 50,000 tons across 36 varieties, led by sweet potatoes at 17,000 tons, followed by onions at 14,000 tons, and potatoes at 5,000 tons.

Egypt exported 30,000 tons of 28 fruit varieties during the week, led by strawberries at 12,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 7,000 tons and pomegranates at 5,000 tons.

The United States was the top destination for Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Somalia, and Sudan, among 166 countries that received Egyptian food products, the NFSA said.
