Egypt’s foreign minister arrives in Britain after Paris visit

Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in London on Tuesday night from France as he continues his brief trip to Europe.

Shoukry’s one-day visit to Britain will see him meet with his British counterpart Philip Hammond and the British national security adviser to discuss the development of political and economic relations between the countries.

The ministers are also expected to discuss the threat of terrorism, and conflicts in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq.

Sameh Shoukry began his European trip on Monday by visiting France where he held talks with French foreign minister Laurent Fabius where they discussed bilateral relations and regional issues.

Shoukry also participated in the international ministerial conference in Paris, which according to the foreign ministry’s spokesman aimed to “develop a plan to protect the vulnerable populations of Syria and Iraq from Daesh’s terrorist acts”.

The minister also attended the inauguration of the “Osiris, Egypt and its Hidden Treasures” exhibition at the Arab World Institute in Paris, described by French president François Hollande as “an appetiser of what tourists would see from ancient artefacts by visiting Egypt”, which may help boost the tourism industry in Egypt.
