Egypt’s GASC Expects To Import 4.8 Mln T Wheat In Fiscal 2012-13

Egypt’s main state wheat buyer GASC expects to import 4.8 million tonnes of wheat in fiscal year 2012-13, down 9.4 percent from 5.3 million tonnes a year earlier, its vice chairman Nomani Nomani said on Tuesday.

Nomani told Reuters GASC had already imported 2.26 million tonnes of wheat this fiscal year.

He said the lower expected imports in the current year were due to rising local wheat supplies and added that the estimate might be amended depending on the overall grain situation in the country.
