Egypt’s inflation rate increases by 1.6% in August

Egypt’s general consumer price inflation (CPI) increased by 1.6 percent last August or 184 points, up from 181.1 points in July 2023, according to the country’s official statistics agency (CAPMAS) on Saturday.

This figure came due to an increase in vegetable prices during August by 22.4 percent, fruit by four percent, sugar by two percent, while dairy, cheese and eggs by three percent, the report added.

Egypt’s monthly inflation rate increased by two percent in July and June, 2.7 percent in May, 1.8 percent in April, 3.2 percent in March and 7.1 percent in February, while it increased by 4.9 percent in January, CAPMAS said.
