Egypt’s exports of iron and steel increased by 46 percent in the first five months of 2023, the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory, and Metallurgy Industries (ECBM) reported on Wednesday.
The exports hit a value of $943 million, up from $647 million recorded during the same period last year.
According to the report, a total of 69 countries received iron and steel imports from Egypt during the January-May period.
Spain’s imports of iron and steel from Egypt had a value of $187.745 million, up by 32 percent year on year (YoY).
Egypt’s iron and steel exports to Türkiye also surged by 1,388 percent, reaching a value of $109.261 million during the same period.
The US imported $103.536 million worth of Egyptian iron and steel. However, Egypt’s exports to Italy fell by 20 percent YoY to reach $95.195 million.
