Egypt’s Kahraba joins Portuguese side CD Aves after going AWOL

Egyptian forward Mahmoud “Kahraba” Abdel-Moneim has joined Portuguese side Clube Desportivo Das Aves (CD Aves) after going AWOL from Cairo giants Zamalek last June.

The 25-year old winger signed a two-year contract with CD Aves according to a statement published by the club website on Thursday.

The former Egypt winger is under contract with Zamalek but failed to report for training last June. Sources close to the player have revealed to the media that Kahraba’s move came following several unfulfilled promises by the club’s management over his contract.

Former Egyptian FA board member Magdi Abdel-Ghani has confirmed that Kahraba’s contract with Zamalek is a 100% legitimate and that he has no legal ground to breach it.

Kahraba has been signed by CD Aves upon recommendation of coach Augusto Inacio who managed him at Zamalek in 2017.

Inacio, who was appointed in January, hopes to bolster his squad ahead of the new season as CD Aves finished 14th last term just 4 points ahead of the relegation zone.

Kahraba, who had previous spells in Europe plying his trade at Swiss sides Luzern and Grasshoppers, has been a key figure in Zamalek’s team leading them to their first ever African Confederation Cup title in May.

The case is expected to go to FIFA and CAS in the coming days.
