Egyptian prosecution on Sunday ordered a 15-day detention period pending investigation for 24 additional suspects arrested in the Giza town of Kerdasa following a security crackdown launched since Thursday on the area, bringing the number of arrests by security forces since the start of the operation to 104.
Tense calm permeated Kerdasa Saturday as security forces continued to comb the area.
On Thursday, Egyptian police backed by military forces stormed Kerdasa to capture suspects of the 14 August deadly attack on the town’s police station, allegedly Islamist militants, which had resulted in the brutal killing of 11 policemen.
A senior police official was killed in an exchange of fire with armed groups during the Thursday clampdown.
The August Kerdasa police station assault came in the immediate aftermath of the violent dispersal by security forces of two large pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo and Giza demanding his reinstatement.
