Egypt’s monorail project to cost $540 million: source

Egypt’s project to build a monorail that connects the new capital with East Cairo will cost between $530 million and $540 million, a transport ministry source said on Monday.

The 52 kilometre (32 mile) project connects Cairo Stadium metro station in Nasr City to the country’s new administrative capital and New Cairo. The project is a fuel-saving, which will contribute to accelerating the development of the new administrative capital project.

The project will have 22 terminals and 27 trains, that is expected to transport 24,000 passengers at speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour.
