Egypt’s Nasr Automotive resumes production after 15-year hiatus, eyes electric future

Nasr Automotive, a historic Egyptian automaker, has made a triumphant return to production after a 15-year hiatus. The company, with the support of the Egyptian government, is set to play a crucial role in the country’s industrial resurgence.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly attended the relaunch event on Saturday, which marked the delivery of the first batch of Nasr Sky tourist buses to Egypt’s Ministry of Transport. Nasr Automotive’s CEO, Khaled Shadid outlined an ambitious vision for the company, including the production of electric minibuses, golf cars, and electric tuk-tuks.

The company also signed a key partnership with Tron Technology (Singapore-Taiwan) and Your Transit (UAE) that will facilitate the production of 300 electric minibuses by 2026. Additionally, a new battery production line will be established to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.

The company’s passenger car production facility is also gearing up for production, with an initial target of 20,000 cars per year. Nasr Automotive aims to increase the local content of its vehicles to 60-70 per cent in the coming years.

By reviving its operations, Nasr Automotive is contributing to Egypt’s industrial growth, creating jobs, and reducing reliance on imports. The company’s focus on electric vehicles and sustainable manufacturing aligns with the global trend towards cleaner transportation and aligns with Egypt’s broader economic and environmental goals.
