Egypt’s Nissan begins production of 1st Magnite SUV in Africa

Egypt’s Nissan began production of the first Nissan Magnite SUV in Africa at its plant in 6th of October City, supported by investments exceeding $276 million and an additional $45 million allocated to upgrade passenger vehicle assembly lines.

The factory, which spans 104,000 square metres, produced around 30,000 vehicles last year and increased its production capacity to 50,000 vehicles annually. Nissan raised the local content ratio from 51 per cent to more than 55 per cent and exported over 25,000 vehicles in recent years.

The locally assembled Magnite is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 100 horsepower and complies with Euro 6 emissions standards. The vehicle consumes 5.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres and is equipped with six airbags and advanced safety technologies designed to achieve a five star safety rating.

Production of the Magnite comes under the Automotive Industry Development Programme (AIDP) and a memorandum of understanding signed with the Egyptian government on 4 December 2024, under which Nissan committed to invest $45 million to modernise passenger vehicle assembly lines. Installation of the new production line began in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, followed by production trials in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.

Nissan also announced that it has produced 350,000 vehicles in Egypt over the past 20 years, describing the milestone as evidence of its long term commitment to the country and its industrial development.

The company reported a record total market share of 15.6 per cent and sales of nearly 32,000 vehicles last year. Its factory recorded the highest production level in its history, assembling more than 28,000 vehicles on a two shift system, while continuing efforts to reach its maximum annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles.
