Egypt’s PM discusses Egypt’s mining sector development

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a roundtable on Wednesday during the fifth edition of the Egypt Mining Forum 2026, bringing together representatives of major local and international mining companies, institutions, and financial institutions.

Madbouly said Egypt’s mining sector is entering a new phase after the government addressed structural issues that had limited investment. He said the government aims to turn the forum’s outcomes into projects, accelerate implementation, and support investors through incentives, facilitations, and partnerships.

The government will also focus on exploring Egypt’s geological potential and linking mineral resources with markets, industry, energy, and infrastructure.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said mining development should extend beyond raw material extraction to processing and manufacturing, adding that Egypt could become a regional hub for processing minerals from other African countries.

The discussions covered geological potential, infrastructure, governance, policies, government procedures, licences, tenders, investment applications, and environmental approvals. Officials also discussed electricity needs, mining-manufacturing links, labour regulations, and opportunities to create jobs for Egyptian women.

Madbouly said the government remains open to investors’ proposals and cooperation frameworks in the mining sector.
