Egypt’s PM reviews final preparations for Chinese president’s visit

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed final preparations on Monday for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to Egypt, with officials discussing ways to expand economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.

Madbouly chaired a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Capital attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty, Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid, presidential economic adviser Hala El-Said, and presidential financial adviser Ahmed El-Shazly, along with officials from relevant government bodies. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk joined by video conference.

Madbouly said the meeting aimed to finalise arrangements for the visit following a series of preparatory meetings.

He said Xi’s visit would provide an opportunity to expand cooperation between Egypt and China and strengthen coordination across several sectors, according to a government statement.

The meeting reviewed existing joint projects and areas of bilateral cooperation, with officials discussing ways to build on recent progress and support Egypt’s development and investment goals.

Madbouly also highlighted the role of a dedicated China unit within the Cabinet in coordinating economic and development cooperation with Beijing and identifying potential projects and areas for future collaboration.

Egypt and China have upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in recent years, with cooperation expanding in infrastructure, industry, energy, and investment.

The government also discussed expanding investment opportunities and making greater use of potential projects in priority sectors, citing what it described as increased interest among Chinese companies in Egypt’s investment climate.

The officials stressed the need to strengthen economic cooperation in areas of mutual interest, the statement said.
