Egypt’s railway authority cuts train speeds on some routes due to heatwave

Egypt’s railway authority said on Thursday it had temporarily reduced train speeds on selected routes because of high temperatures, citing passenger safety concerns.

The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) said the measure applies to routes in Upper and Lower Egypt and forms part of precautionary safety procedures during periods of extreme heat.

The authority said the temporary speed reductions were intended to reduce the impact of high temperatures on railway operations, adding that normal speeds would resume once weather conditions improve.

The railway operator apologised for potential delays, saying passenger safety remained its top priority.
