Egypt’s reserve money (M Zero) dropped to 1.968 trillion Egyptian pounds at the end of August 2024, from 1.992 trillion pounds at the end of July 2024, the central bank reported on Wednesday.
However, reserve money in August 2024 showed a notable increase compared to the end of December 2023, when it stood at 1.689 trillion pounds, indicating sustained growth over the year despite the recent monthly decline.
The M0 consists of currency in circulation outside the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) vaults as well as banks’ deposits in local currency.
The Egyptian central bank uses the M0 as an intermediate operating target for its monetary policy in managing local liquidity.
