Egypt’s San Misr wins €46 mln Jordan power plant maintenance contract

The state-affiliated Egyptian Maintenance Company (EMC) – San Misr has won a 10-year contract worth about €46 million to maintain power generation facilities operated by Jordan’s Arab Potash Company (APC), Egypt’s petroleum ministry said on Thursday.

The contract was awarded through an international tender in which San Misr competed against several global engineering and maintenance companies, according to the ministry.

Under the agreement, the Egyptian company will provide maintenance services and technical support for two Siemens Energy gas turbines at APC’s power station in Jordan.

The turbines generate 110 megawatts of electricity and produce 170 tons of steam per hour for the company’s industrial operations.

The ministry said the contract was one of San Misr’s largest recent overseas awards and forms part of efforts to expand the international activities of Egyptian petroleum-sector service companies.

Egypt has been seeking to increase exports of engineering, maintenance, and technical services as part of a broader strategy to generate foreign-currency revenues and strengthen the regional presence of state-affiliated energy companies.
