Egypt’s Sisi highlights global cooperation at BRICS Summit
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated on Sunday in the open session and working lunch for leaders of BRICS member states and partner countries in New Delhi, held under the theme “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future of Inclusive Global Growth.”
Sisi delivered Egypt’s statement during the session, highlighting the importance of strengthening cooperation among BRICS members and partners to address global challenges and promote more inclusive and sustainable growth.
He stressed the need to build more resilient economies by diversifying growth sources, strengthening supply chains, investing in people and technology, and expanding cooperation among countries of the Global South.
Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s focus on cooperation in innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), technology transfer and localisation, to help countries benefit from technological developments and strengthen the role of youth in future economies.
On sustainability, the President emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation in clean and renewable energy, improving resource-use efficiency, and facilitating developing countries’ access to financing and technology needed for the transition towards more sustainable economies.
He noted that Egypt held the Egypt Energy Show Exhibition (EGYPES 2026), which provided a platform for strengthening partnerships and investments and exchanging expertise in energy, innovation and related technologies.
Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to develop ports, connectivity corridors and transport networks to improve trade flows, support the green transition in maritime transport and strengthen regional connectivity.
He pointed to the Suez Canal’s role as one of the world’s key international trade routes and Egypt’s role in supporting supply chain stability and the efficiency and sustainability of global trade.
The President further stressed the importance of increasing trade and investment between BRICS countries and their partners and encouraging joint projects to strengthen economic connectivity and reduce the impact of external shocks.
He also called for a stronger role for development financing institutions, particularly the New Development Bank (NDB), in financing infrastructure and development projects and expanding developing countries’ access to concessional financing.
Sisi affirmed Egypt’s readiness to continue working with BRICS member and partner countries to strengthen cooperation in energy, food, transport, logistics, technology and investment, leveraging the country’s capabilities and strategic location to build a more interconnected and resilient partnership.
