Egypt’s Sisi Offers Condolences To Tunisia’s Essebsi Over Terrorist Attack

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has extended condolences to Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Wednesday, after gunmen attacked a tourist bus outside a museum in the Tunisian capital killing 22.

Gunmen dressed in military uniform opened fire on tourists as they were disembarking from a bus and chased them inside Bardo museum, taking a number of hostages, who were later freed when police stormed the museum and killed two gunmen.

A policeman was also killed in the gun fight.

Polish, Italian, and Spanish tourists were among the 20 foreigners killed, Tunisian prime minister Habib Essid said.

In a phone call with Essebsi, El-Sisi condemned the “brutal terrorist” attack, confirming Egypt’s support to Tunisia in its war against terrorism, which has no boundaries or religion.

El-Sisi also said coordination between the two brotherly countries will continue to fight terrorism and strengthen international efforts to eliminate it, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef stated.

Egypt itself is fighting a growing Islamist militant insurgency which has increased in the past year and a half, killing hundreds- mainly police and army forces- but recent attacks on shops in residential and commercial neighborhoods in Egyptian cities have killed more civilians.
