Egyptian shares closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark EGX30 index falling 0.66 per cent.
The EGX30, which tracks Egypt’s largest and most actively traded companies, closed at 53,553.41 points. The EGX33 Shariah index also dropped by 0.42 per cent to 6,608.43 points, while the EGX35-LV lost 0.73 per cent to 6,549.71 points.
Small- and mid-cap stocks also showed bearish performance. The EGX70 index, which tracks small- and mid-cap stocks, went lower by 0.89 per cent to 19,776.31 points, while the broader EGX100 slid 0.89 per cent lower to 26,132.88 points.
Market capitalisation stood at 4.239 trillion Egyptian pounds.
Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers, with purchases totalling 38.925 million pounds and 1.175 billion pounds, respectively.
Non-Arab foreign investors were net sellers, recording net sales of 1.214 billion pounds.
