Egypt’s strategic wheat reserves are enough for more than five months to come, the Supply Ministry’s media advisor said in a news conference on Wednesday.
The state buyer GASC agreed Wednesday to buy 350,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia and 40,000 tonnes of wheat from Romania, Supply Ministry’s media advisor Mohamed Sweed further told Reuters Arabic.
Egypt, the world’s top importer of grain, is aiming to boost domestic production in an effort to cut its import bill. The state and private buyers purchase around 10 million tonnes from abroad annually.
