Egypt’s strategic wheat reserves are enough to last until the first week of March 2016, the country’s supply minister Khaled Hanafy said Sunday.
The new reserve figure was released after Egypt’s state-run General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) purchased 3235,000 tonnes of Russian and Ukrainian wheat through an international tender.
Around 60,000 tonnes would be imported from Ukraine, while the remaining 275,000 tonnes will come from Russia, Hanafy added, clarifying that the imported wheat shall be delivered over 10 days starting from early November, 2015.
