Egypt’s transport services operating normally after earthquake

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport confirmed that all transport facilities and services are operating normally and were not affected by the earthquake that struck the country in the early hours of Monday, with railway, metro, maritime, and road networks continuing to function without disruption.

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir monitored the operational status of the country’s transport network through the ministry’s Crisis Management Centre and direct communication with the heads of affiliated authorities and companies to ensure the safety of infrastructure and the uninterrupted delivery of services.

The ministry said railway services are running according to scheduled timetables, with no impact recorded on train operations or railway infrastructure, while technical and operational monitoring continues around the clock.

It added that all three Cairo Metro lines, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, the East Nile Monorail, and the ministry’s public bus services are operating normally and in full compliance with safety standards.

The ministry also confirmed that seaports continue to receive and dispatch vessels while cargo handling operations are proceeding normally. River ports, land ports, dry ports, and logistics zones are also operating as usual, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of trade and supply chains.

Traffic across the ministry’s road and bridge network remains unaffected, with field and technical inspections continuing to verify the safety of infrastructure.

El-Wazir instructed the heads of the ministry’s affiliated authorities and companies to maintain a high level of readiness, sustain field presence, and continue real-time monitoring to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of transport services.
