Egypt’s Zamalek Aim To Play Rivals Ahly For Assiut Victims

Zamalek’s football committee have suggested playing a friendly against arch-rivals Ahly whereby revenues would be donated to the families of the children who were killed in the Upper Egyptian city of Assiut.

More than 40 children were killed in a fatal collision between a train and a kindergarten school bus Saturday morning.

“The participation of two great and famous teams like Ahly and Zamalek will earn the match success and also much attention by media,” Zamalek’s football committee member Mahmoud Abou Regaila told German DPA news agency on Monday.

“The match revenues will go to the families of Assiut victims in solidarity.”

“We will start contacting Ahly officials to arrange for the match that will be organised in an exemplary manner,” he added.

Last march, Zamalek management had announced that they reached an agreement with Ahly officials to play a friendly to raise funds for the Port Said victims, after 74 people died during a local Port Said versus Ahly match allegedly when Masry (Port Said) fans attacked the opposing fans. However, the idea has not materialised until now.
